Public funding for journalism

Should we bail out private journalism with public funds? Will the money have strings attached? Would the public funding create an unintended bias based on nrabroad
biting the hand or from fear of repercussions like the FCC and it's ambiguous regulations and fines.

no, most of the time I'd rather get my international news from international sources anyway. From what I understood of the argument for it, the news organizations are hurting and this is making international news sources better at presenting international news... which I don't think is a very compelling argument.
 
American newspapers rely too much on advertising that is why the business model has found it so hard to cope in the past few years.

In Japan and many European countries newspapers gather most of their revenue from the price you pay for the paper at the new stand or from subscriptions readers pay to get the paper delivered to their door each morning.

This model has found it easier to adjust to pay online news as subscribers are already used to paying upfront from the news they read.
