I'm thinking about a career as an airline pilot. I hear that airlines test candidates psychologically before hiring them. Is this true? What are you tested on anyways? I know I'm not insane, but what if I do all that training and find out i'm not psychologically a good pilot??

any atps out there?

Thanks!

Airline pilots must have higher level medical certificates, which a pilot cannot secure if he or she has a history of certain mental conditions. As airlines can hire only applicants that hold those medical certificates, it becomes impossible for a person with a history of mental problems to become a professional pilot at that level.

There is a lot of voluntary disclosure in the process, and an occasional person slips through, but these things tend to become obvious before too long, and the people don't last.

As far as just ordinary personal traits that lead to success as a professional pilot, those will sort themselves out long before you get to the airline level.
