Psuedo-Anaphylaxis?

At least I think. Has anybody ever heard of/dealt with/treated anaphylaxis? I can't be sure, but I think I might have a mild reaction. Whenever I'm under stress, whether physical or emotional/social, I get the bad itching, watery eyes, rash, and flushed reaction that the article mentions. It's never gotten as direly serious as the swelling, trouble breathing, or the whole...y'know, death, but what I get regardless isn't a picnic.

I don't mean to be one of those internet-hypochondriacs, but I've searched up on reasons and this is the best I could find. I've got a penicillin allergy and something with Benadryl, if that's relevant. Does anybody have any experience with or treatments for this? Any help would be appreciated =)

My little sis gets hives like crazy when she's stressed out. Don't know if that's what you're talking about though. The only thing the doctors do to her is juice her up with anti-histamines and/or steroids and send her home again.

People's bodies react diefferently to stress. When I'm stressed, my hands peal like a leper's. Your body might also somehow poetentially be slightly allergic to stress hormones. Ask your doctor, not a forum, though.

Interesting. I'd never thought of it that way. I have been under some stress for the last while, mostly because of finances and related issues. Hasn't really bothered me mentally or emotionally for the most part. But I never would've linked stress to random watering eyes or feeling flushed. Half makes sense, seeing as I've only noticed it in the last couple years.

So you're allergic to stress?

You're an inch away from being allergic to work! :D

I dont think that's anaphylactic shock.... from what I understand it's basically an allergic reaction to something. I went itno anaphylactic shock from laundry detergent...

I was driving a friend to work that mornig, and I felt worse and worse over the period of about 15 minutes, culminating in me passing out while driving and I ended up totalling my truck and hitting two other people. Fortunately no one was hurt.

I should have pulled over, but the symptoms hit me so fast that I didnt really know what was going on, and the last I remember, I just felt REALLY nauseated. I actually like... whited out I guess... I didnt blackout...I had a whiteout. It was... odd.

Hopefully I'll never have to go through anything like that again, but I was nauseated, my stomach hurt, my eyes were itching, and I was covered in hives, and toward the end I got pretty lightheaded.

BUt apparently anaphylaxis has to be triggered by an allergen. Your body may react to stress weirdly, but it's not anaphylaxis.

Well it does often happen when i'm wearing a particular shirt, though I'm inclined to agree that it's not anaphylaxis. It just happened to match the symptoms to a certain extent. I've also considered that it may be psychological; I used to be able to focus really hard, and the itching would decrease in intensity or cease altogether.

When I'm stressed my hands break out in hives. It's gross.

Maybe you should just talk to a doctor about it.

Not quite on topic, but I've been in anaphylactic shock from accidentally ingesting peanuts on a few occasions. Hospitalized every time, and a few I don't even remember. It's Fun!

Once, from shrimp. It wasn't serious enough that I needed to go to the hospital, which is lucky because I was on a boat anchored at some little cay in the V.I. late at night. Some benadryl fixed me right up. But it was not pleasant. My eyes swelled shut, my face puffed up, and it was hard to breathe.

Allergies have many different levels to them. you have a bad allergy, but not anaphylaxis. That's a shock reaction which intensifies quickly and brings the body to a shock level. You sound like you have a bad allergy reaction to whatever you were reacting to. Your body does not sound like it was going into shock. I've had both. I'm allergic to one of the meds I take. I went into anaphylactic shock. Ambulance came and all. Luckily I was also taking prednisone which can counteract the shock reaction a bit. I also have bad allergies to things and that's more like what you seemed to have. Take some benedryl or another over the counter allergy pill and see how that goes.
