hurts1974: Ask your question on the EPILEPSY board and maybe someone can help there. I'd suggest that you see an endocrinologist and get a hormone study done and see if you might have estrogen dominance. Since you're a female, seizures can either start at puberty or menopause if they're hormonal related. You could be starting perimenopause. Are there any triggers that you know of that cause the seizures?
I started having seizures when I was 43 and found out I was estrogen dominant. No meds work to control them because it's all hormonal and part of the change of life.
Look up Catamenial Epilepsy and see if there's anything that jumps out at you that might coincide with what you're having. I know the triggers for me these days are MSG, fluorescent lights, chemical sensitivities (perfume, gasoline, exhaust fumes, cleaning chemicals), the sun, lack of sleep, stress, and plastics.
I had a test done of my neurotransmitters and was told that I was low in Taurine and high in Glutamate. Then I had my hair analyzed and found out I was low in Magnesium and Selenium. I now take those along with Vit B6, B12 and Vitamin D.
Some people say that coffee can cause seizures but I started having them before I ever drank coffee. Since I've been on the seizure meds I've been prescribed I've become a coffee drinker because it seems to be the only thing that takes away the side effects of the meds.
See if you can get an allergy test too to see if you might be allergic to something that could be causing the seizures. I had one and was told I was allergic to Milk, Sugar and Tomatoes. I'm not giving up the Milk and Sugar but I can live without tomatoes. I'm also finding that if I eat red meat these days I end up having a seizure. It's the hormones that are in the meat. I also can't tolerate soy. It's a phytoestrogen and increases the estrogen in you.
I read Dr. John Lee's book "What your doctor won't tell you about menopause" and he's got a list in there of about 40 things that you can feel from too much estrogen. I've got around 14 of them. Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) is on there and I know I've felt it from time to time. I think its online. See if you can find it. Just search for estrogen dominance.
We live in a toxic world these days and alot of these chemicals we eat and breathe are playing games with our heads and bodies. Young girls are getting their periods at 9 years old these days and women are going into menopause in their 30's.
I'm here if you want to ask anything else. Good luck and stay safe.
