PS3 trouble, flashing red light?

I'm having trouble with my PS3 system... I just rented a game and put it in my system. I've never had troubles before with this system, but for some reason this time when I put the game in and turned the power on, the power light turned green at first before flashing yellow, and then started flashing red. Now it's just flashing red and I can't get the game out.

What is causing my system to do this? Like I said, it started out on green light, flashed, to yellow, and then started and continues to flash red. I can't get the game out of the system and I've tried un-plugging it and everything... Nothing... Please, help?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble. I may be able to help. First, let's try to get the game disc out of the system. Unplug the console and then plug it back in. Make sure the I/O switch on the back is set to "I". There should be a red light on the front. Now, press and hold the eject button, keeping your finger on it for at least 15 seconds. If this does not work, do not try to force the disc out - it will ruin any chance you may have of having Sony fix your console, and may damage the PS3 further. The error code you are describing *could* be caused by overheating, so you can unplug the unit and put it somewhere cool for an hour or so. However, more likely than not, you have a general hardware failure. If you are under warranty, then give Sony a call. They will take care of you. If not, they'll charge 150 bucks fore a refurbished console. There are also many companies on ebay which claim to fix yellow light errors, although in some instances they simply cannot be repaired. If you send your console in for repair, you'll just have to tell the rental store that you have had a console failure and that you'll return the game ASAP. Hopefully they'll understand.

I hope this helps - please award best answer if so! Also, just add details to your question if you'd like to know anything else, and I'll respond. Good luck!
