PS3 flashes a red light?

I was playing COD4 and my tv would start showing no game play, like if I were turning my tv off and on. Then, my system made a beeping sound and kept flashing the red light. Then, my ps3 just turned off by itself, with the red light still there. At first, it started off with the visuals fading off and on, then it started to turn into the ps3 turning off by itself, all within a week span.

I've heard of the yellow light of death, but my ps3 didnt show a yellow light. Anyone know what's wrong with my ps3 and know what I can do to fix it?
 
well it can happen in many ways but most likely the case that the ps3 got overheated let it relax for a week or two but if that doesn't work then you need to call Sony and have them repair it but i would do is somehow clean the ps3 fan first and try to play it and then send it to Sony if it doesn't work.
 
Maybe it was overheating even though I've left mine on for 12 hours straight and it was fine, but there is nothing around it to make it hot

or you have a ghost!
