ps2 games keep freezing is it the laser?

My son's PS2 games freeze sometimes when he's playing them could anyone tell me why?
I thought it might be the laser that needs a clean 'cos of a build up of dust. D'ya think that could be the reason.

could'nt agree more..., depends though, if its a slimline ps2, it could be overheating, otherwise it depends on how often the ps2 is used, or how long it has been used, if you manage to find a decent online guide, use that open it up then clean it out, becarful though! there are many different ps2 versions and are different on the insides, dont risk breaking it.
 
yep it is probably the laser, you need to get a ps2 cleaning kit or use pure alcohol or even vinega with cotton wool to gently clean the laser.

follow some online tutorial. its easy and really works.

be gentle when taking the top off, dont pull the metal tape off
