ps2 disk will not load the game?

my cousin has ratchet and clank 3: up your arsenal and the disk just got the scratches taken out.it plays but it won`t get past the loading screen he has left it for an hour and it was doing the same thing.
oh i forgot to add when he starts a new game it loads
thank you but no thankyou that wasn`t the question it does this on every ps2 he tries it on
it does this everytime he does try to load it

It must have froze up on you. He'll have to continue from his last save point. Turn off the system. Take out the disc, check to see if its dirty and wipe it with a cloth or something if it is.

For me, this sometimes happens if my PS2 is dusty because I live in an old house where dust collects fast on things. So maybe you can try to blow in that cooling area just below the controller ports to try to clear out some dust.
