Proponents of evolution: is this a sound argument for Intelligent Design?

I understand that if you support evolution, you may consider I.D. supporters to be your nemeses. Please don't think that way for the next few minutes. If you enjoy science, then you know how valuable objectivity is, and how essential it is to science. Please remain objective as you read my argument, and give me some honest feedback. I welcome your thoughts, your criticisms, or your accolades.

I cannot honestly say that there is definitive proof for Intelligent Design, but just hear me out for a moment. I was thinking about similarities in animals- specifically, in the similarities of arm structure in bats, cats, whales, apes, and humans. It is entirely possible that the similarities may be interpreted as support for evolution, and that is a sound argument. It is logical. It may suggest that humans and apes share a common ancestor, and that, perhaps, life has evolved from simpler forms over a geologic time scale. But I thought about something.

What if the similarities indicate a common creator? Isn't it possible that the arms of some animals are so very similar because they share a common creator? What if the arms of bats, people, cats, etc. have all come to look quite similar because it was evolutionarily advantageous for each individual species?

If you look at the startling similarities between humans and chimps, yes, of course, it may suggest that we evolved from a common progenitor. But couldn't it just as easily suggest a common creator? Please be open minded about this, and remain disinterested. Isn't this possible? Isn't it possible that an intelligent being created life on Earth (we don't even necessarily have to agree that it was the Christian God)?

Please share your thoughts. Is this a sound argument for Intelligent Design? Why or why not?
