Dear *****************,

I would like to share a personal statement to be considered along with my submitted admission material. ********* was an ideal location in my college search as a transfer student, because of its size, academics, diversity, and close knit educational environment. I believe my success as a student will grow in this environment that ********** provides. I have the idea, after researching your school and speaking with faculty, that students at your school are interested in learning and your faculty is willing and able to assist whenever they can. This is very important to me, as I had trouble in a school with over 15,000 students to make this one on one connection with professors in and out of the classroom. I was attracted to your mission statement, and was able to relate to the goals that are your priorities. As a student at **********, I know I can thrive, while also being a part of a challenging program. I'm looking forward for a chance to become involved in your community, make new friends, and most importantly be a part of an institution that I believe in.

If I could, I would like to explain my academic performance for the second semester, in my first year of college. The marks I received did not reflect my personal ability or fulfill my own expectations. I have always been committed to a high level of success in my academics, so this was difficult to accept. Classes were increasingly challenging, as expected, but I felt overwhelmed and disconnected in a very large learning environment, which I discovered didn't agree with my learning style. I sought help whenever possible, however professors weren't readily available and often very occupied at this school. I didn't give up, struggled with the material, and spent countless hours trying to gain an understanding of my studies. By the end of the semester, my grasp of the material was not at all reflected in the grades I received. I was assured that I was capable, however I had to accept the final grades and move on. After my experience in a large University, I believe a smaller setting will truly prove to be the best thing for me. I'm very anxious to get back to work. Your consideration means a great deal to me, and I promise as a student that I will be dedicated, hard working, involved, and a valuable asset to your community. It would be a privilege to continue my studies at ***********.

Thank you, I hope to hear back from you soon.
