Promo rate plans

i noticed tmo is having a promo:

1500 w/ nights - $50
1500 w/o nights - $40

i called and tried to change my plan and they told me that it would extend my contract. i've only been with tmo for two months on a two year contract. i don't remember where, but i do remember reading a thread about how if you have more than a year left on your contract that it wouldn't extend the contract when changing rate plans. can someone confirm this. thanks in advance.

Actually I was told that if you have more than 12 months on the contract changing plans will not extend your agreement. Suggest you call again or vistit a store....

I signed on with T-Mobile July of '06, then just my luck the myfaves came available in Sept. Anyway. by the time I got around to switching it was Oct. and my plan was extended two years from then. So it's up next oct. instead of July. No biggie, T-mobile and I get along just fine!

i called back and talked to another csr... was told the same thing. it's no big deal, only an extra two months... but i never had this problem with sprint. i've changed my plan a few times without extending my contract in the past. thanks for all the responses.

T-Mobile only makes you extend your contract if you change to a promo plan. If you change to a regular plan, you do not have to extend your contract. These plans are special promo plans, therefore this is why that make you extend your contract.

Absolutely and Tmo dopes not add contracts together so... if you are under contract til say jan 2009 and you want to switch to a promo plan now, no change will happen to the contract since pp change contracts are 12 mo. and you have over that left on the current contract. Say in Feb. you wanted to change to a promo plan you would need to renew a 12 mo contract and be with them til Feb 2009. Hope it clearifies.

Actually, changing to a promo plan that has a 2year contract specifically written into the promo would require a contract change to a new 2year beginning on the date of the rate plan change. Not all their promos have that detail written in that require a 2 year contract. I don't recall if the two plans he mentioned have them or not right off hand.
