Program For 'Ripping' DVD's?

i'm not being a big bad copyright thief or anything, this is just needed for college stuff. Anyhoo, does anyone know of any programs that would allow me to 'rip' stuff from a dvd onto a computer much as most computers can do with an audio cd?
Someone told me about something called 'handbreak'-any good?

DVD Decryptor is about the best. Its good for getting stuff you recorded from TV straight to DVD onto your PC for removing adverts, etc.
