I have a 1.5 hour commute EACH WAY for my new job. I need some new music to listen to in my car. I was listening to Skyfire for about a month straight but I need something else now.

Recommendations?

I should specify, when I say "black metal," I mean the somewhat symphonic stuff. Not like late-80s black metal. Actually, fans of "true" black metal don't even like the stuff that I like. They says it's sell-out black metal or something.

Or if you're just signing in, list some banRAB you like to give me some suggestions. I'll start:

Stratovarius
Dream Theater (before that POS Train of Thought album)
Sonata Arctica
DragonForce
Angra
Symphony X
Twilighting
Nightwish

Dimmu Borgir
Kovenant
Cradle of Filth
Children of Bodom
Skyfire
Graveworm

Old Man's Child
God Dethroned
Vehemence
Fragments of Unbecomeing
Opeth

and yer right I dont like most of the stuff you like but I do like alot of symphonic black metal. I think You'd really like Vehemence and Fragments though, pretty clean melodic death metal. not sure if yer into folk/pagan metal but you might like Ensiferium, Arkona (not the polish black metal band the Russian folk metal band, same name big difference), Einherjer, Equilibrium, Forefather or Orphaned Land. not not exactly what yer into but it all has a melodic death or symphonic black metal feel to it...or just outright viking.

also, you said you don't like true black metal but check out Bathory. their older stuff is old school black metal but they have alot of really cool folky viking shit that sounRAB nothing like black metal. maybe d/l the disco and see what you like.

Yeah, I forgot Opeth. I almost got to see them last year in Chicago but it was sold out

I also like what I've heard from Enseferium (spelling).

And solo guitarrists like Marty Friedman, Michael Angelo, Vai, Satch, etc. I respect Yngwie, but I don't dig his music that much.

edit - wtf @ Fairyland

Not all of these are black metal but most of them are:

Darkthrone
Carpathian Forest
Immortal
Emperor
Ensiferum
Wintersun
Amon Amarth
Satyricon
Wolves in the Throne Room (very good american black metal, I consider them to be melodic black)
1349
Bathory
Nattefrost
Taake (for a black metal band they have some very melodic stuff)
Marduk
Craft

Well I can suggest Sonata Arctica, Helloween, Cellador and Blind Guardian since you like Dragonforce. For black metal, it seems that all of the bases have been covered. You could also try Wintersun. Um...for black metal, you need Mayhem's De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas and some early Behemoth like Grom. try Akercocke as well.

Thanks for suggestions.

I thought Train of Thought was nu-metal BS with a few solos thrown in. I was disappointed. I was also kind of disappointed with Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From a Memory. It had some good parts, but it sounded like they rushed to make the album, and a lot of it was boring. Everything before that album is good, however.
