I'm asking this question on behalf of my mom.
She has an Dell desktop and just bought Fios from Verizon. We got a new router and this little white plug in for her computer because the computer itself doesn't have a wireless pick up thingy. (Sorry. I'm not technologically savvy, so I'm not sure what else to call it.) I have a mac myself, and I was having issues with the internet- every few minutes it would change from my mom's internet to someone else's. I had my friend who said that he was a computer whiz fix my computer via screensharing (took a little while b/c of the internet problem, but we got it done.) He changed the preferences on my computer, waved his magic wand, and changed the name of the internet (I think it's called the SSID?) to something we could recognize, because there's a LOT of other wireless things around my house. So now my laptop works fine, but my mom's internet doesn't work at all. The night it broke, I went over to her computer, re-connected her computer to the new name of our internet, and left it. It didn't work all night, and it will work for five to ten minutes at a time before cutting off again. We have to connect it over and over and over again, and it's really annoying. We've called Verizon a few times, and each time we've gotten a different story and a different fix- neither of which have worked.
1. The channel was switched from channel eleven to automatic. It needs to be channel eleven. We put it back on channel eleven, but it hasn't worked.
2. The little plug-in thingy is cheap and we need a new one.
3. Only an ethernet cord will work.
4. Our computer is broken.
Anyone have any ideas on what to do? My mom's pretty upset. Thanks!!!
