I have a 9242... Very bad move to buy that unit! Remote number 1 always had problem on and off. Yesterday I coudn't find remote number 1 so I I tried to used remote 2 (both tuners are hooked on the same TV, tuner 1 at input 5 and tuner 2 at input 2). Remote woudn't open either TV or Bell TV receiver.

Played with the machine to finally open it and get to system info. Try to change the remote adress, and after many trials it worked! Remote than started to work. Tonight I went back in my room to watcha film, and guess what? Remote 2 is not working again.

Batterie have been changed (last night)
I did a hard reboot (unplugged everything)
I even unplug the UHF antenna and plugged it back

Any idea on what to do next?

I also changed the Fluo conpact light to a regular light

Any ideas on what causes the problem?

I'm not sure if I understand what you did, or are trying to do...
Did you change remote 2, to be remote 1?
How did you get into the diagnostics screen? The front panel?

If you are using the Remote #2, it should not matter what kind of lights you use, the Remote is working via UHF Pro.

I don't know about the 9242, but on my 9200, the UHF remote is very sensitive to the position of the antenna on the box. Try rotating the antenna a bit and see if that helps.

I'm simply trying to use my REMOTE2.
No I didn't change my REMOTE2 in a REMOTE1

By switching to TV1

I stopped doing "official" BTV service calls a couple years ago but I seem to remember going to a service call on a 9242 where the customer called me directly about 6 months ago. I came to the conclusion that the remote 2 doesn't work as a UHF remote when using the single mode (1 TV only) and that it was only meant to be used with the 2 TV setup. I was quite shocked as I know both remotes 1 & 2 worked in the same condition on the 9200. The TSR could not confirm it and I didn't have the user manual. Might have been a different problem other than the usual ones (low batteries, defective antenna, remote address...) but I could not pinpoint it. It's either that or the receiver was defective.

My receiver is set in DUAL MODE...

The receiver works fine when using the first tuner, and on and off using the tuner 2, I doubt it's the receiver.

But did you rotate it? For instance, mine basically doesn't work unless it is at approximately the 2:00 position. If it is at 12:00 or 4:00, reception is very poor.

Dah! I was a TECH2 agent for a year and a half and you think i'm too stupid to put back a little antenna in the hole I just removed it from?

I did... It was at 3:00 postion I say, and now it's at 12:00 position

Don't get pissy.... It was only a question.

Do you know how many people have the UHF antenna in the Off Air input.?

OK, I sent my 9242 in for replacement as my remote #2 gradually stopped working. When I got the replacement, remote #2 still wouldn't work. I even started swearing at this Indian guy who didn't understand my problem. He had me running from one TV to the other.

I'm in single mode but operating two HD TVs with my PVR, so my situation may not be the same, but this is what I did.

I pressed the mode button on the front panel and it says, do you want to continue? I pressed yes and remote #2 now works, no problem. I hope this helps you or others who can't get the second remote working or maybe your 9242 needs replacement.

Lots. I've seen numerous times when someone has connected the sat feed onto the wrong connector as well (if I recall this casues the unit to shut off in some circumstances) Plugging a phone line into the network port also messes up your phone line. Easy to do, particularly if reaching into a cabinet or "feeling" your way around the back of the unit if you can't see it :)
