Problems with my T Mobile G2 phone's keyboard, help?

Sometimes when im using the hardware keyboard, its a complete riot. For example, when i press the "e" button (alone not using alt or anything) I get email. Just like when I press the "g" it goes to my gmail, "c" for contacts, etc. Its just unnerving... any advice on how to get this to stop permanently so I can use the hardware keyboard without it doing that?
