Has anyone experienced withdrawal symptoms when stopping Fioricet/Butalbital. I don't know if I'm going crazy or what but I feel like there is pressure on my chest and hard to breathe as well as anxiety, jittery, can't focus, spacey, depressed. I don't know if it is from stopping the pills or just anxiety and depression in general. Can anyone share thoughts or experiences with this medicine?

one BIG thing here is that fioricet is NOT a narcotic, its main active ingedient is actually in the barbiturate class of meRAB,very different from narcotics but still addictive as all get out. how much were you taking per day and for how long prior to stopping? did you taper off or just stop suddenly? how long ago was the last pill? these types of meRAB affect the brain a bit differently, more like in the benzo frame of set? with the case of barbs, depending upon a few different factors, you can actually have siezures if the doses were high for a long period of time and the drug is not really tapered down before you go off. but if you have been off for a while, even a couple of days, the seizure threat would not really be an issue at this point.

if you could answer those questions i asked,it would really help me to try and help you in the best ways. i do know you will feel the way you are just because your brain is trying to adjust to not having the barbs anymore(they just tend to affect the brain a bit more as a whole than when going off of narcotics). there is also caffiene in there to so that could be a headache issue possibly, but you can suppliment the caffiene in many ways if you are getting any rebound head pain at this point.

the symptoms you are having could be from just not having the things you mentioned just kind of 'suppressed or depressed" anymore, you know what i mean? the butalbital has a much more of a sedative type of effect on the body, kind of like taking a valium would? so this may just dissapate with some time. it wouldn't hurt tho just to see your doc for a check up and tell him about the chest issues. it may or may not be related but should be evaluated if it stays with you more than a few days ya know?

knowing what you were taking(how much and for how long) prior to stopping would kind of also dictate the severity and length of time of the WD symptoms too. i would think that overall, depending, a week or so would be the most impactful as far as WD symptoms. it should be getting better a bit each day over time. if not,you just really do need that check up and at least a strip run on your heart. sometimes other things are going on too at the very same time as other conditions or situations. this just means that what you are experiencing may or may not be related depending upon how long the symptoms persist.

did you have anxiety issues or depression BEFORE you started the fioricet? that also neeRAB to be taken into consideration. hopefully this will pass soon. please keep me posted. Marcia

My Dr. Prescribed this to me around 9 years ago. I took it for headaches. It took me about 2 years to start abusing them. I distinctly remeraber the day I was driving and reaching in my purse for a pill and realized I didn't have a headache. But I continued to take them on and off for the next 7 years. I have finally made a decision that I am NOT going to take them anymore and I am experiencing the symtoms I described earlier. I have taken up to 15 a day and as little as 2 a day for extended perioRAB of time over the last 7-9 years. I am seeing that others have experienced dependecy on these and it it scary that I have been so naive about them. I want to get off this rollacoaster, so I am hoping that these anxiety symtoms will go away because I don't want to be dependent on something else in its place.

This drug has been an issue with my mom and my older sister since i was a small child. When they take them they turn into totally different people, they both turn very mean and nasty and say and do some of the meanest things. when i was a teenager my mom would throw me out of her house at least 3 times a month because thats when she was on fioricet she sturabled around like she was drunk, and when she would run out of them she would not remeraber the past few days when she was on them, i would tell her how she tried to throw me out or the awful things she would say to me and it would start a fight and she thought i had a serious mental issue like i was making all this stuff up, and my sister gets the same way she calls me and starts calling me names and is the biggest b*t*h on the planet and we have actually stopped talking to each other for months and she couldnt remeraber half the things she said or did to me. And my mom will pass out cold when she takes them a few times i thought she was dead! I actually put a spoon under her nose when she was passed out to make sure she was still breathing!! The craziness goes on and on when they take these, and i took one once for a headache and it made me so drowsy but i couldnt sleep bcuz of all the caffeine in it! it was miserable. But i was curious to know if anyone else experienced this horrible rage and forgetfulness and turning into a monster whn this med is taken or maybe my sis and mom have bad reactions to it? did you ever have this happen?
