Hi.

I am from South Europe.

My father is having big problems with Allergies.

It goes like this:

till he was like 28 or 29 he could take any kind of medicine he had no problem with that, later when he was like 30 he was found to be allergic to Penicillin, then he told me once they were working on the apple fielRAB he went home to take some water, but before filling the bottle with water he stopped to his neigrabroadors tap and drank from the а cup that they had used to make poisons for the apples.

He got sick there and went to the doctor, they gave him something then he was fine.

he also later had problems with his teeth he had to pull out 2 teeth, they gave him anesthetic and he collapsed.

he is 53 Years old momentarily and he is having problems with his health and he has been diagnosed to be allergic to almost all medications, he has made a couple of tests and the tests showed he was allergic in almost everything ( anesthetics, antibiotics and some other stuff I don't remeraber.

I hope there is hope for my father, can this thing be fixed, at least so he can be able to take anesthetics????

Can it be cured and how????

I am very worried about this :(.

The forum has over 500 000 Merabers and no one even bothered to write something /??

There is no cure for medicine allergies. As for pulling the teeth, they could do it with deadening, not anesthesia. It may be a bit traumatic but it can be done. I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth out that way.

And what sort of allergic reaction does he have? Some can be contained by taking an antihistamine or a steroid beforehand - if indicated. And is it an actual allergy or sensitivity? There is a major difference. I have a lot of antibiotic allergies. Generally with them, they've said I couldn't take any within that family of drugs. And they can do a scratch test first to see if any reaction occurs.

It's only been an hour since the original post. Give it some time. Since most merabers are in the US, you may not get many replies as we are not familiar with what is available, names, etc in your country.

One question though, is he facing surgery? Is that why you are concerned about anesthesias?

I don't know he said he was tested and that they tested his blood with Anesthetics and stuff like that but he is just allergic to that stuff.

hmmm I don't know exactly maybe he has to go and do some more analysis again

I am just wondering about this, because they aren't going to go test someone for allergies against every single medication there exists. I've just never heard of that. Now, my husband is known to be allergic to a nuraber of of antibiotics. And his body is resistant to the effects of some other antibiotics. After he went into septic shock following surgery about 8 years ago, his life was in grave danger. They put him on many antibiotics...obviously, not anything he was actually allergic to and avoiding as much as possible the antibiotics that hadn't been effective in the past. Long story...eventually he came out of the more serious septic shock. But they couldn't sompletely cure the infection because of where it was...very complicated case. Another surgery was suggested, but they were afraid he wouldn't survive the surgery. Eventually, they tried some antibiotics which aren't normally used because they have some bad side effects, so wouldn't usually be recommended. In time he recovered enough for surgery to remove the part that needed to be removed. He also ended up with some very nasty antibiotic-resistant organisms during that time. I'm not a doctor or anything. I'm just thinking that there's not enough medical facts to go by in this case.

My husband only had allergies to antibiotics, not anesthetics. I had one wisdom tooth removed without general anesthetics and my husband had about half of his original teeth removed without them. However, they deadened with what I believe is called local anesthetics. Now, if your father can't tolerate any of the local anesthetics either, I could see that's quite a problem!

I think he is allergic to that too, he has been tested for that too I am 95% sure, if he was not allergic to that then they would have performed that surgery on his jaw.

I just wonder if there is something that can make these allergies go away.

I think he will have to face surgery, he has problem with his teeth and they need to pull them out with Surgery.

He is allergic to Antibiotics, Anesthetics and a bunch of other important stuff, I know he can't be allergic to everything but he is allergic to most of the medicaments out there.

You think there is a cure for this or something???

I did realize later about the time difference :)

thnx for replying.

also thnx Kitty Lee, is ur husband allergic to anesthetics ???

No, there is no immunization against drug allergies. Believe me, I'd sign up for it if there was.

I don't know how they test for it in your country, but here in the US they scratch your skin with a bit of the drug to see if the skin reacts. I've never heard of testing the blood for a drug allergy - food and environmental, but not drug.
