I own a 1997 Suzuki Sidekick JLX, 4 door automatic. Yesterday, the fan under the hood completely broke off (we don't know what triggered it, nor do I know about cars. So please deal with my idiot language) It looks like something that needs to be welded due to it completely snapping off. Also, due to the fan busting, it beat against some sort of wheel... that looks like it's holding a fan belt, and wore it down. Is this fixable or should i save the money to fix it and use it as a down payment for a new car?

Also, if you suggest buying a new car, what should I look into? I need something reliable, with good gas mileage. Preferably something cute, but eh, I need the reliability more.
