also, lights and radio work fine after it has died. this is why i think it's the alternator and not the battery. does that sound right?
this morning i was on my way to class. started the jeep up fine. got to my first red light and it started shaking a little. it was shaking too much to be the rotors but i had no idea what it could be. the shaking stopped once i started going again. got to my second red light and as i braked, the jeep died. did a u-turn to come back home and as i came to the light to turn down my street, the power steering went out and the jeep died. it started back up fine, i pulled into my parking spot and it died as i pulled in.
everytime i started it back up, it started fine. every time i braked as i came to a stop it died. could this be the alternator? how difficult is it to remove an alternator in a grand cherokee?
I went to Advance Auto and it turns out that I needed a new thermostat. I've been having problems with overheating but I didn't think this was at all related. Apparently the jeep is cutting off b/c it's getting too hot. The thermostat is stuck and the upper hose is cracked. I'm really relieved that it was a fairly cheap fix. Thanks for ya'lls input!!
