I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee with about 158,000 miles on it. I've been having a few problems with it, but recently, the RPM meter has been going crazy. Yesterday, it went from about 1,500 RPM to almost 5,000 RPM in a matter of seconds. I had to pull over and turn the engine off, but it was still doing the same thing today. Also, when I am idling, usually at a stop light, I have to put the car in park or else it just shuts off. I would appreciate any help!
