What could be wrong with this car?

As a novice, I'd guess a fuel pump, or a problem with the throttle cable which installed myself.

Symptoms are a loss of acceleration, which isn't usually helped by double-pumping or holding down the gas, accompanied by a chugging, sputtering sound and the smell of an extremely rich fuel mixture. (With black smoke from exhaust.)

At times I will stall out completely and it'll take several attempts to recover from this stall.

I've used a few bottles of injector cleaners of various types. #3 Spark plug wire has been noted unplugged at times, something which I believe happens on its own due to heat. Reconnecting it seemed to make a difference on one ocassion, but the loss of power still happens.

Any opinions?
