Discectomy L5 /S1
I had a disc herniated 1 cm into my sciatic nerve. I am 3 months after surgery now. I walk 2-3 miles every morning and do my San Francisco Spine Inst. exercise every morning. I have some issues I am curious about. 1) I get sore lower back muscles if i slouch at all when I sit or drive for longer perioRAB. For two months I sat upright and I know those muscles haven't been used. 2) Some mornings I wake up and my torso is crooked, muscles pulling to one side. 3)My foot lost nurabness about a month ago and feels good most of the time. At times, especially after walking, my foot has pain. Is this nerves healing?

I had similar issues w/ low back pain and foot pain (including nurabness) after my L5-S1 partial discectomy/laminectomy. I would say it took a good 6 mos. before I would say I'm pain-free. My low back still will ache if I do too much. Just keep up w/ the exercise, be diligent with your back (e.g., watch your lifting and twisting), and be patient (something my wife would say that I have little of).

My husband had discectomy/laminectomy on L5 in l995 and is having unbearable
foot burning/back pain. He is overweight which puts extra stress on his back and
makes doing almost anything very difficult. The surgeon told him that after a few
years the scarring would build up and he would definitely need back surgery.

Im the same. 7 months post op. i feel fine but im on this site now so there is a ghost pain. Keep training. You gotta keep healthy and hopefully it will stimulate the body to recover fully
