problem with windows media player 12?

It will only play the sample files. it wont play any ripped or downloaded files.

There isn't much else be the fact that a Screen pops up saying this.

Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file.

then it gives you two options close or web.

And i went to try to reinstall it but it said the version saved is older than the one im using. the two versions are

(the one saved)
12.0.7600.16385

(the one im useing) 12.0.7600.16415

can any one help?
 
I hope your Codecs were corrupted. Just download and install Codecs for your OS. Otherwise try The KM Player. It's good Audio/Video Player I recommend.
