Problem with Nokia E 50

Anyone seen where the E50 resets itself at random times, typically during a call? It just shuts itself down and restarts, almost like a windows computer doing a ctrl-alt-del by itself. Phone is about a month old, have tried master reset, restore to factory settings, and am now at a loss as to what to do.

How about the battery? It might be defective. Consider trying a new one. Of the likely causes, this item is one that you can investigate without sending it to a technician.
 
Been there, and its not good. Tried everything including a trip to the Nokia repair centre. They formatted the phone and re-installed the firmware, but within a week it was back. I noticed the calls during which the phone rebooted were often long ones, could have been a co-incidence.

You'll be told on here to hard reset the phone; guess what; it doesn't work!

Wish I could help. In he end I sold the phone.
 
That wasnt a properly working phone. You have warranty rights and should have instead forced Nokia to provide you with a properly working phone. That would be better for everyone, yourself included, since the manufacturer will be forced to improve quality control on their product if it costs them money in user replacements. They DO measure and monitor that, you know. And you would have got a brand new phone which you can use or sell for full price.

Also I hope you at least told the person you sold the dud to, that it was in fact a dud....
 
Yep, sold with full disclosure, he was sure he could sort it, but still hasn't managed, he tells me that he's waiting for new firmware, something I was not prepaed to do.
 
The thing that strikes me is that is sound more like plain old quality control than firmware issue.

There are only two versions of E50 firmware, most recent is end of Oct 2006. Many with this firmware are fine - yet others report problems which I dont see how a new firmware will solve if other people dont have the problem at all and have same firmware to begin with.

Sned these phones back and ask for your money or a working one. It cannot be firmware.
