I received something in the mail the other day from Nextel, it said they
were going to let us use iDEN until 2010. I am wondering what will
happen after that. To me it seems that the larger more powerful
corporations are buying up the TDMA based networks, (1) because they
use more bandwidth , are the most powerful and provide the best voice
quality. (2) Because the big corporations want to cram so many new
subscribers into the alloted frequencys and enhance their bottom line-
to hell with the end user who can't get on line, once they sell a contract
it will cost $200.00 US to quit it. Cingular did it with AT&T, thats why I
switched from AT&T to Nextel 2 months ago, mainly because I didn't
like what they did. I thought my AT&T TDMA was the best, but they (AT&
T) would not offer any new phones. I was told by a Cingular salesperson
that TDMA would be gone in 4 months. HORSEPUCKY ! That is just one
of their tacktics to get people to buy into their new lower powered,
higher frequency, narrower bandwith , generally lower voice quality
network so they can make big time bucks, post haste. I think the FCC
will mandate that they continue to maintain the TDMA networks for at
least 3 years or more, but what phones besides a Motorola would last
that long? Now I'm worried that Sprint is going to try the same thing,
buying Nextel to scrap the TDMA based iDEN network. I guess we'all
are going to ride this out, and keep the faith. LONG LIVE TDMA. And
thank you for hipping me to what a 6-1 phone is.
