I just bought a used car and it does heaps of noises while driving between 40km/h and 100km/h .The dealer think its wheel bearing .Do you have any idea how I know if the noise is wheel bearing or not

The first symptom of wheel bearing trouble is noise. There is usually a rumbling, growling, chirping or cyclic noise of some kind that will come from the vicinity of the wheels.

This is a good indication that trouble is now brewing and therefore immediate attention is needed. If you ignore a noisy wheel bearing it could suddenly fail. This could be fatal as the vehicle could lose a wheel while driving.

Wheel bearing noise doesn’t change with when accelerating or decelerating but it may change when turning, or it could even become louder or even disappear at certain speeds. But don’t get confused with the noise a bad outer CV joint makes, as it only makes a noise when turning.

Often an easy way to find out if your bearing is one the way out, is to grab the tyre with both hands (while still on the car and on the ground) and pull it towards you and then push. If you get sideways movement when you do this, you can be pretty sure that it needs to be replaced.

It could and I say only "could" also be the tread pattern on the tyres (particularly if it goes quiet, above that speed), which is making the noise, as it could also be differential. Depends on where the noise is coming from.

where is the noise coming from? do the wheels make a noise when you hit or kick the tire/rim? i have a 01' eclipse GT and i got told it was the wheel bearing assembly but it was the control arms in the back rear tires, get a manual for your vehicle like chiltons or hanes manual, or something along that nature cuz it sounds like you live in europe somewhere the way you described the km/h instead of mph, cuz you don't wanna get the wheel bearings fixed and then find out it didn't fix the problem which equals wasted money, try to look the problem up in the manual first and diagnose it by that, doesn't take a real good mechanic to figure it out, so in the end you can save yourself money by getting the problem fixed the first time, hope this helps later
