Problem with iPod to Mac music transfer?

I have downloaded both Senuti and Mac Music Rescue, and when I plug my [PC-Formatted] iPod in to transfer the songs onto my new macbook, it automatically disconnects the iPod seconds later, so I can't move the songs.
My girlfriend has a mac and Music Rescue worked perfectly fine, is there something that I am doing wrong?
