I just had my car repaired and this note appeared on the invoice. "The lower arm with the eccentric bolt frame is tearing due to the pressure former collision. Any future concerns, the rear sub frame will need replacement." I was told that basically where a bolt goes in, the hole has become slightly oval. The service guy said this might never cause a problem but if it does, it would cost about $1500 to repair. Anyone understand this? What kind of problem could it cause? Is there a solution that's under $1500? Is my dealer right that it might never cause a problem? Thanks.

the bolt hole that he is referring to is used to adjust the rear alignment on the car, specifically an adjustment called "toe-in"

if the toe-in can't be set correctly you will wear the rear tire on the side that has the problem. toe-in can cause the tire to wear on the inside tread, the outside tread or often in a diagonal pattern across the tread.

so the answer is if you see tire wear on the rear tire on the side that theoretically has the problem and the toe cannot be set then you'll need tor replace the subframe.

i can't say if there is evidence of a collision or not or if this will ever be a problem. I expect the technician is just doing a CYA and that it will never cause a problem

hope that helps
