Problem with connecting my motorola phone to the PC through USB?

I have the Motorola razr2 v8. in its instructions I should set its CONNECTIONS to MEDIA SYNCHRONIZATION in order to transfer files from pc to the phone. when i do that, the phone keeps on telling me "the usb connection has been canceled.the phone is now charging. to establish a new connection unplug the cable and plug it again." It automatically charges even when the phone is fully charge, help!
