2000 Chevy Malibu. 180K miles.

The car loses power and RPM's when I accelerate. It kinda rocks back and forth like it isn't getting fuel correctly or something. This is VERY noticeable when I accelerate to go up an incline/hill. The check engine light comes on every once and a while. When I first got the car, it was always on until i unplugged the battery. Can I get some advice?

Plugged fuel lines or cat converter.

You might want to check your fuel filters and run some Techron additive through your gas tank (the actual bottle, not just Chevron gasoline).

Also, could be a dying fuel pump. My Mustang would stutter when accelerating before the fuel pump went out.

Also could be a breathing problem, especially when going up a hill. So you may want to check your air filter.

Cat converter's usually last a long time, unless there is a problem with the engine itself (misfire, blown head gasket, etc). But I've had an experience where the cat converter was so bad that it severely affected my performance on flat roads.

If the check engine light comes on again, you might want to have it scanned. Could be a weak sensor somewhere or vacuum leak ocurring.

Good Luck!
