The other day I was driving home from work and my battery light came on, so i turned off my radio and it the light turned off. Then the next day when I accelerated and got to about 3,000 rpms the light came on again and then started flickering and then went off when I took my foot off of the gas. The next day it was on the whole time so I took my truck to Checker Auto Parts and he did a battery test for me, and said my battery is just fine, he said it could be my alternator or my serpentine belt. Is there any self test I could do to confirm that it is either my alternator or the belt?

To check your alternator: while the car is running loosen and disconnect the positive battery cable. If the car continues to run, your alternator is fine. If it doesn't, you need a new alternator. As far as the serpentine belt, you can visibly inspect it by grabbing it and turning it towards you to see if it has hairline cracks and is chalky(black chalk) or dry rotted. The serpentine belt is the easiest belt to change. If you are mechanically inclined it usually takes a 3/8 ratchett with no attachments and your hands. You insert the ratchett into the tensioner and turn it. You can easily find a video or step by step instructions online. If you do it just make sure you look at the routing before you remove the old one. Take a picture of it. How many miles do you have on the car? The other thing you can do for your battery is to clean the terminals and connections. If you have an Advance Auto Parts in your town they will do it for free. Good luck
