I own a 1980 Toyota pick up, 5-speed, 2-wd, 91,000 miles. For weeks I have had idling issues, 1000 to 3100 rpm, sometimes I can flick the gas pedal and rpm will go from 3100 to 1000, sometimes not.
So today while driving 70mph, fifth gear, my "charge" light comes on (odd because just replaced alternator, new not rebuilt, new voltage regulator) then oil light, I pull off the freeway and the truck dies. She has electricity, will turn over and start, then dies. I can keep the truck running If I give it a bit of gas even drive in gear/reverse, but cuts out if I let the gas off.
She didn't puke oil, still level. The Charge light is still on.
Any thoughts would help, someone thought fuel filter (its new) or fuel lines? How does that effect the trucks electricity leak?

check accelerator linkages to carby to make sure nothings sticking and while the truck is running look at the fuel filter to make sure you are getting good flow. Check your air filter and make sure its clean and check your mixtures too. If theres nothing wrong id consider having the carb cleaned and even rebuilt if it needs it. Make sure the wiring on your alternator is not loose but maybe if your oil light is on too it might be just a wiring prob in your dash.
