Problem: T5 Palm Universal Wireless keyboard

embrace life

Just bought Palmone's Universal wireless keyboard. I first loaded the file that came on the CD. The keyboard worked immediately but the "keyboard program on the T5 crashed with a fatal exception and required a soft reset. I deleted that and went to Palmone and got the latest latest driver dated June. The keyboard still works but the Keyboard application still crashes requiring a soft reset. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Did you ever have another keyboard installed on any other Palm that you upgraded to the T5? If so, there may have been a Keyboard.PRC file left over from that previous keyboard that's not compatiblble with the Palm Universal Keyboard. Using a program like FileZ, find and delete any file named Keyboard.PRC amd then install the Keyboard.PRC from your current keyboard.

I've never had a keyboard before but looked anyway to see if there was another keyboard file somehow. I also re-installed the 11/04 wi-fi drivers to see if that was causing a conflict. all to no avail. The keyboard program crashes immediately requiring a reset. Any ideas? thanks

Bill,

No crashes and I just downloaded the latest driver as well.

Screen Shot - your keyboard settings should look the same as attached. If not - wrong driver which at the P1 web site is easy to get the wrong one.

Dear Moose,

I think you showed the screen shot of the keyboard program actually running. I don't get that far. I go to the page on my Palm which lists all the programs and I see the "Keyboard" icon (right next to the Hotsync icon), select it, and get an immediate Fatal exception requiring a soft reset to correct. Any ideas?

Bill,
Getting an immediate crash when you tap on the keyboard icon is always the sign of an incompatible driver. As Moose wrote, it's not difficult to accidentally get the wrong driver from Palm. I'd suggest you double check everything, delete the current Keyboard.PRC file, and reinstall from scratch. Since I neither a T5 or the keyboard, I'm working the dark. Moose, what is the size and file creation date of your keyboard file? Maybe that will provide a clue as to whether Bill indeed has the wrong file loaded.

I've tried that but will try again. Is there a simple way to uninstall several third party programs to see if that solve the problem and then reinstall one at a time? For example, could I cut and remove the potential conflick programs from the backup, delete same from the T5, and see if that solves the problem. Then, if it doesn't, past them back into the backup folder and resync? Would that put them back into my Palm? Thanks

Sorry troops be real busy the last couple of days with windshield time.

Bill,

Here is the wireless keyboard driver attached in zip format. This is the one that's working on my machine.

Are you running any thing like TextPlus or QuickWrite? TextPlus has been causing some issues on my T5 but QuickWrite seems more stable and hence TP could have a conflict with the keyboard driver.

Hey Mooseman, I could use your help re-insalling Agendus pro. I did a hard reset and Keyboard worked right away. I've been reinstalling from a copy of my backup folder and still no conflicts with Keyboard yet. Is there a way to use the agendus files from the backup folder to reinstall Agendus and not have to redo all the settings again? What files do I need to download, they are not obvious from looking in the BU folder. In fact, there does not seem to even be an agendus application. Help! Thanks so much

* stands for anything after the prefix file name:

Photo links:

_AGP_Image*
ActionNames* This is the actual exe or prc - name
from the original program name.
Agendus* should be about 5 files with this name including mail
AGRules*
ANData*
Iambic* including _licenses
Icons-Iambic*
TTTempl-Iambic* - not necessary unless you had some templates.

This should cover just about all of the files that you need to bring back to retain the settings.

Don't know if following applies to T5, but thought you'd like to know how driver works on T3.

On my T3 I also see fatal alert with version 1.05. CD-ROM version is worse, as it causes WSOD on T3 - requiring PDA disassembly to disconnect battery to fix (post if you want link to thread with more info). In the thread this was called a really hard reset.

BUT the (version 1.05) fatal alert was ONLY happening if I had the phone link update (#2 - 11/29/04) installed. I have not tried phone link update (#3 - 06/14/05) to see if problem was fixed, as I don't need it to support my phone.

FWIW - Somebody posted a partial workaround for people that needed phone link #2 update (post and I'll add link to thread).

Sorry for the double post, but I just noticed that P1 has posted version 1.08 of UWK driver (6/9/2005)

If you've not tired it you might want to.

Fixed:
  • Adds Tungsten E2 and LifeDrive compatibility.
  • Tungsten T3: addresses incompatibility issues between the drivers for the Wi-Fi Card by palmOne and the Universal Wireless Keyboard drivers.
  • Tungsten T3: resolves conflicts with some 3rd party applications.
  • Zire 71: addresses camera preview refresh issues.
