Problem receiving e-mail on my Verizon HTC Thunderbolt

Hi everybody! Brand new Android user and I'm generally happy with my choice but if I can't resolve this problem my adventures with Android will come to an abrupt halt.

I'm coming off a Blackberry and although I hate to say anything nice about that experience, I must admit that the e-mail worked perfectly. This is how I expect my mobile e-mail to work: When I receive an e-mail a copy of that e-mail should appear on my phone and on my computer (I use Outlook).

With my Thunderbolt, sometimes e-mails go to my phone and sometimes they go to my computer. I suspect that the laptop gets first dibs when it's on but I'm not positive.

If it matters, I have two e-mail accounts: one through Gmail and one through Yahoo Business. I have not changed any setting on those accounts since (successfully) setting them up on my Blackberry. I'm able to receive e-mails from both accounts on Outlook and on my phone so I can only suspect that everything is set up correctly but they simply don't work together.

I need to know how to fix this problem. At the very least I need to know if the problem is with Gmail, Yahoo, Verizon, HTC, HTC's mail client, Outlook, or something else.

Thanks for your help. Advanced apologies if this has been asked before. I've searched the Internet and this forum and haven't seen this question asked or answered but I may have missed it.

So I notice that there hasn't been any response to my earlier post. Plenty of legitimate reasons for that. I've been playing around with my phone and I think I've solved my problem.

I deleted my accounts from the HTC Mail client and tried using K-9 Mail. I'd read some good things about that mail client. After sending e-mails from both my accounts to the other account (Gmail to Yahoo and vice versa), I saw that the e-mail to my Yahoo account appears on my phone and computer. The e-mail sent to my Gmail account only went to my phone but I'm less concerned about that account. Small victories, people.

I hope to experience some more success. Hopefully there is another e-mail client that works at least as well as K-9. I'm not wild about the layout of K-9 but right now function is more important than form.
