Problem: Manic Depressive Not Qualified for SS Disability Benefits?

I would like to know how Social Security Administration (SSA) determines whether disability benefits continue for a Manic Depressive. When one is on medications costing over $750 per month, how can SSA deny future disability benefits because the individual on drugs can dress and take care of himself? How do I go about challenging their decision?
