I work as a music tutor in a few schools around the area. One of these schools just employed me 6 weeks ago. The students were in the middle of getting ready for ameb exams this saturday, Its one of these stuents parents I have a problem with. She was just on the phone to me telling me basically that she thinks I haven't prepared her daughter for the exam. She was literally yelling/ screaming that her daughter isnt ready. She has had to engage anther tutor to teach her things that I haven't. The thing is the things that the tutor is teaching are not in the exam. I am talking advanced theory, history composition.n This is a practical exam, yes with some theory e.g. key signatures, modulations etc but not advanced theory that she was accusing me of not teaching her. This theory is not in the sylabus yet she expected that I would teach her daughter She also belitted me for not 'knowing anything about flute exams' and what happens in them. basicaly saying that I should not be teaching flute if I don't know. also assuming that I dont know anything about flute. She assumes that I would do everything from find an accompanist (I did but she isnt using them) to knowing her daughter's schedule so that I can organise rehearsals. She also assumes that I would be willing to come to the school on another day just to teach her daughter. I only took over 6 weeks ago and hence have a limited time etc with her. When I tried to tell her all of this she just assumes I am wrong. I reaaly don't need to deal with this right now. My other studnets and parents love my creativity etc My first instinct is to get rid of them. I don't have a waiting list but have constant calls of prospective students. Hence I am pretty busy with my other students Am just over reacting? being a sensitive artist? or is this just the life of a music teacher? Maminaka kick my butt if you have too!
