Hey, I think I might have an acid reflux problem and I am trying Prilosec. How long before I start to feel to relief? Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks so much for your time.

I think you are supposed to give a week for a PPI to begin working, but I recall a huge improvement in about 4 days.

Some people feel some improvement after just one day, many people after 4 days, though it might take longer to feel the full benefit. If you've been on it a week and seen NO improvement, it probably isn't going to help.

My doctor put me on Prilosec "for the rest of my life" due to a hiatal hernia causing continuous heartburn. It started working in only 2 days. I've been on it for 10 months now, and the only side effect I really notice is a dry throat every now and then. I'll just suck on a piece of candy and that takes care of the problem.

Relief should start in 2-3 days. You might still need an occasional dose of antacid (Tums, Mallox, Mylanta) for breakthrough symptoms

If you are going to take prilosec long term, a daily Centrum tablet with your main meal is a good idea, because the redcution in stomach acid can reduce aRABorbsion of some vitamins and minerals.
