I-Need-Help-Sumtimes

I got a hamster yesterday and everything was fine, we had this cage like thing set up. It's called like the pet roll-a-coaster or something. Well, my cat, who has never had an interest for mice or bugs or anything, decided to knock the cage over at 3:30 in the morning and the hamster got out. It took awhile for me to catch it, after finding it in the cats mouth, and it was an experience I do not wish to repeat. What can I do to prevent my cat from eating my hamster without finding them new homes?
