Preparing to Flash My First Phone

PEACE!

I've been doing some reading about phone flashing on this forum and have since been interested in trying to flash a phone myself. I can get a Sprint LG Rumor off my friend for pretty cheap but I don't know if the ESN is clean or not. How big of a problem is it if it isn't? I just wanted to know if the ESN would be a problem, if the Rumor would be a fairly easy first phone to flash and what EXACTLY I'm going to need to flash it both physically and computer software/drivers. Thanks a ton to anyone who can help me out. :)

ESN-wise, you should be fine. Cricket doesn't check other carriers databases for bad ESN's. you will however have to convert the MEID on the back of the phone from hex to decimal. And search, read, and search more for how to flash it. it's been posted,.

I bought a cricket xv6700, and its esn is still attached to the former owners account. he, of course is m.i.a. i also have a cricket ve240 on hand. can i flip the 240's esn to the 6700?? how?? i have all the necessary software (i think). i went thru a couple a tut's, but they all seem to deal with changing the esn completely, not swapping it out. somewhere, someone asked for the old esn, the new esn, and the new phone nuraber, and they offered to do it. i of course lost the link. but if thats all it is, cant i just swap it in qpst, or cdma workshop??

if im in the wrong thread, sorry about that. it was one of the most recent for "esn swap" in the search engine..

thanks in advance fer yer help and advice....

I have been following along the same lines you have for the last couple of months. I have ended up with a ton of programs used for flashing phones. mtty, qpst, cdma workshop, xvi32, esnchksum, getspc, uni_exitbootloader, wllpst, the complete ppckitchen package, and those are just the ones i can think of off hand. then you have to get all the drivers for your phones, i'm currently working on (or screwing up) five or six different models. I also belong to just about every freakin forum associated with cell phones known to man. I have found software/drivers/random stuff all over the place, there really isnt one big repository. I guess you could call rapiRABhare that, but i'm a free user, so its always been a PITA for me.

The more I delve into it, the more I find out the following truths:
**google is your friend**
**search, search again, and oh yeah search**
**read completely thru the tutorials, then read them again as you go find and DL the software, then read them again when you attempt it.**
**always download the stock version of what yer screwin with, you'll need it eventually, guaranteed.**
**if you search, and find nothing, change the search wording at least 3 times before you ask in a forum**
**organization is the key, dont just willy nilly DL stuff, put it in its place**
**baby steps, i.e. dont try to do too much at first, just get the darn thing working again, then you can tweak it**
**never, ever, flash your only working phone**

so yeah, from one flash noob to another, thats my two cents.

good luck, and happy flashing!!
