I was assigned to sit in on a court hearing for school and write about what i saw. when i did so I saw many different hearings take place. It seemed that a trial would occur, and a person would be charged. Then, a new trial would occur, something like a preliminary hearing, where the judge decided if there was enough evidence and stated either to dismiss the case or to set up a trial.
Is this correct? Do judges hear both preliminary hearings and actual trials during the same time/day or do they hear strictly one or the other..
There were no jury or witnesses.
