I am breastfeeding my 7-months old son. My period has been regular for the first six months. We had love two days post ovulation. My period is late now 5 days ( I am 19 days post ovulation). I did the pregnancy test twice, once on the 14h day after ovultation and the other just today. Both were negative, and I wonder what is wrong with my body. Can the test still be wrong? Do I have to take one more test? When should it be quite reliable? As far as I know, 14 days after ovulation are decisive whether to tell a test is reliable or not, but have no idea in case of breastfeeding. Thanks for help

Breastfeeding has no effect on a pregnancy test. Doctors don't consider a period "late" until a week has gone by, and given that you just gave birth 7 months ago your body could still be adjusting even if you had normal periods before. And it is also normal for cycles to undergo changes and not be the same every single month. Wait a week and if you still don't have your period, test again. But it's normal for your period to be 'late' every once in a while; it is also possible that you didn't ovulate last month and therefore would not have a period this month. Good luck.

Hormones are off the wall after having a baby, but it is also very easy to conceive because you body is very fertile. I would call your OB/GYN and see what they say, they might want you to come in a get a test.

The 14 day DPO thing is just an average, assuming you have a 28 day cycle and ovulated right in the middle of it. Plenty of women don't follow that exactly. You should test when your period is late.

You are probably not pregnant if two tests were negative. You might not be ovulating yet, or only ovulating during some cycles but not others. Or you might just be late. (Breatsfeeding itself would not cause a test to be negative if you are pregnant and are far enough past conception/implantation for the test to register.)

If you are having pregnancy symptoms, see your doctor for a more accurate blood test. If not ... I'd just wait and see what happens.

breastfeeding will not change the test but it can and often will change your cycle. It may be that you are pregnant and need to take a test again in a few days, or you have increased/decreased your nursing and the hormones are fluctuating causing an interuption.

breastfeeding can keep periods away if you started a regular one then it is best to wait till you have missed you period, you are most likely just having interfefrence from the breastfeeding hormones if you producing more milk than usual for instance if baby is going through a growth spurt, you can get false negatives if testing too early, good luck,
