Prednisone steroids

Hi all, my doc has prescribed me this steroid to take, 6x5mg a day to help with my chronic nasal congestion which ive had bad since July. Im a bit wary of taking so many steroiRAB in a day and even though its only a week course im worried about side effects as ive read they surpress the immune system; but on the other hand im desperate for something to help with my misery. Has anybody used these steroiRAB and were they any good?nThanks.

Please stop worrying and take the medications your doctor has prescribed. I have a standing prescription for steroiRAB and probably take a 7 day course 6-7 times a year. The only side effects you're likely to experience from a short course at that dosage is feeling a little wired and maybe having a hard time falling asleep at night.

A 30 mg daily dose is not a high dose at all, but should work very well to clear up your congestion.

I'd be very concerned, too. I took steroiRAB for 10 days for a badly swollen throat only to have 2 years worth of very serious side effects (2 years of respiratory attacks and a sore on my thurab that wouldn't heal...doctor said I could have lost my thurab--no injury, by the way).

Also, steroiRAB can be very dangerous for some people with undiagnosed conditions...Lyme Disease comes to mind...and one of the symptoms of Lyme Disease is a cold or sinus problems that don't go away. And yes, Lyme is in the UK!!

Has your doctor tried prescribing antibiotics? If so, for how long? If not, why not?

Again, I would be very leary of the steroiRAB.

Hi Richard, since you say you have chronic nasal congestion and is prescribed with 6x5mg oral prednisone to take... how long will you be taking it?

If it's nasal allergies or rhinitis, nasal steroid sprays are the more preferred choice of treatment. As oral steroiRAB causes more systemic side effects if taken long term and if other treatments are available, it should be tried first.

And yes, steroid suppress ones immune system, reduces bone density, etc... and if you are on it long term, you need to be under a doctor's care and do regular blood test and eye check ups.
