Prednisolone

Hi,
I have been under investigation for sometime and I have been prescribed on Prednisolone. I have got to take 6 tablets that are 5 mg each to make a dosage of 30 mg per day. I have been reading about the side effects of this drug however, and it has scared me a great deal. They are still dubious about it being Lupus but have said that all the symptoms are there. I am still very active though but I am particularly worried about the weight gain that is associated with this drug. I am at the moment around 8 stone and have been on this medication for four days. I was wondering how I can keep my weight down at all and whether a months supply is considered a short term dose or long term dose? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to suddenly expand over the matter of four weeks whilst I am on this drug.

I have been given a months supply of these by the way. Would any side effects take affect in four weeks? Is this a long term or short term dose?

Thank you.

I'm sorry, but I don't know how much a stone is in weight?
I odn't think that you need to be particularily worried about weight gain if you are only on the steroid for a month. That isn't a significant period of time. Here in the states we usually get it in blister packs that run for 10 days that are front loaded. You start with 6 then scale down 1 pill each day.

If you are overly concerned, call you doctor's office back and ask them what the possibility of your gaining weight-or better yet, got to the pharmacy and speak with the pharmacist. They are usually able to answer all of your questions faster than the doctors,
