Pre-release SEO strategy............?

Hi guys,

We are currently in the process of developing a web application and the corresponding website is planned to go live on the first of August. In terms of SEO we were planning to setup a website already this month so Google has plenty of time to index the website and it will at least get some 4 Month of domain age under its belt before the actual release of the product in August.

There is however the problem that we do not want to list the features of the app before very close to the actual release date, in order to not give competition a heads-up of whats cooking in our kitchen ;-)

We were planning to setup a website featuring articles and other content rich in keywords related to our application, without mentioning the upcoming release of the website. Then in August we would just switch the website for our actual product website and start marketing the product.

My worry with this approach was just that Google might realize that the content of the website changed completely from one day to the other and punish us for this. Do you think this would be a problem, and is there any established strategy on how to tackle such a situation?

Thanks in advance,
