Pre pregnancy poll - If not, why not?

I am going to start ttc in the next month or so and have been doing lots of research and there are lots of things that either scientifically or socially should be done before even trying to conceive and i am wondering why anyone might choose not to do them.

I have a friend who has been struggling to get pregnant for ages and finally she is, but even she doesn't seem to have followed any guidelines that are intended to benefit the embryo/foetus/baby.

Either answer yes, or if no give a reason why not.

1/ Did you take folic acid suppliments before conception?
2/ Did you take pregnancy specific multi-vitamins?
3/ Did you stick to no/minimal alcohol levels?
4/ Did you remove caffine from your diet?
5/ Did you alter you diet so it was more nutiritionally balanced?
6/ Did you make an effort to be more active?
7/ Did you get married before conception?
8/ Did you ensure financial stability, ie pay off all debt?
9/ Did you have a full health screening to ensure you wouldn't pass anything to your child?
10/ Did you stop smoking and/or avoid people that smoked?

I'm just trying to understand people.

Thanks
