Pre-Physician Assistant: Getting started?

So I currently have an Associates in Physical Therapist Assistant and would like to further my education into something more challenging in the medical field since it is my main interest. In this case Physician Assistant.

First Question: What is the job outlooks for PA's? I recently read an article stating that more people are becoming NP's (Nurse Practitioners) because they are not required to work under a medical doctor whereas a PA is required to do so. Also, NP's are becoming more of the primary care leader. And with the decreasing number of people becoming medical doctors due to insurance and financial stress, that causes more problems because... without medical doctors, PA's cannot work. So, is PA a good route to take??

Second: I have many credits that are no "in use" and was curious if there was anyway that i can apply those credits and receive a Bachelors degree in only two years. There are a few degrees that I have come across such as Pre-Physician Assistant, Pre-Medicine. PA is now a Masters degree, but am I required to have a B.S degree in anything specific in order to go in the right direction for PA? Can I have a degree in Exercise Science or Kinesiology and then PA??

Any help is appreciated for those of you who are in the medical field or have found themselves in a similar situation. Just trying to get myself on the right path and the least number of years to accomplish such goal. Thanks :)
