Pre-paid or contract mobile phones in Sydney, Australia?

I've just moved to Sydney from the UK and will be here for 12 months. I'm trying to get a mobile asap. As I dont yet have a permanent address (therefore no evidence of utility bills, etc), am I able to get a contract deal on a mobile or is my only choice the pre-paid ones? If so, where should I go to get the best deal on the pre-paids?
