Ok.. I havent been in school in over 15 yrs. I am taking my GED test on Monday. I'm beyond nervous!! I tried taking classes in the fall and it just didn't work out for me. I've been studying at home for about 4 months now. My weakness is math! Not only do I hate it, I'm not good at it! I've been really having a hard time with subtracting negative numbers. i do well with adding, multiplying and even dividing them but for some reason I don't get subtracting them! My husband has tried to teach me but he just confuses me even more because what he says contradicts what I read in my Math book! Grrrrrr!!! Below is an example of what Im confused about. Can someone kindly please help me understand this???
5- -2 - 6+8=
(what ive learned is that when you see "minus a negative", you simply change it to "plus a positive") SOooo this is what I do:
5+2=7
6+8=14
7+14=21<< Is this the correct answer? If not, what am I doing wrong??
