Prayer In Public Schools

Should students be allowed to pray in public schools? Alot of debates about school prayer involves morals, rights, and separation of church and state. Although some people believe it is inappropriate to mix religion and school, there are many good reasons for a constitutional amendment to permit voluntary prayer in schools.
To begin with, some might argue that it is easy to blame everything bad in America upon the absence of school prayer, but since the court outlawed prayer in schools, our nation has been in steady moral decline. Teenage pregnancy, teen suicide, child abuse, and violent crime, to name a few, has reached an all time high. There is a strong correlation between the expulsion of prayer from our schools and the decline in morality. Morals must be taught, and they cannot properly be taught without religion.
Another issue is the debate over constitutional rights.
Many people do not support school prayer and feel it is unconstitutional. The constitution neither mandates nor prohibits prayer in schools. It does not say that prayer in public schools is unconstitutional, therefore, it is not unconstitutional. One may argue that school prayer is unfair, divisive, or just plain durab, but it is not unconstitutional, and apparently it will take an amendment to make that clear.
Finally, there is the issue of church and state. Some people feel that religious beliefs have flourished in this country, not in spite of, but because of the constitutional separation of church and state. The first amendment does not separate God and government, but actually encourages religion. It reaRAB: "Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, nor prohibiting the free exercise thereof". It says nothing about "separation of church and state".
In conclusion, whether you are pro or con school prayer, the debates are endless. I feel, though, that a constitutional amendment to permit voluntary school prayer would preserve our moral and spiritual values and , thus, our good nation.
